Today is World Hijab Day 2023! This day exists to recognize the women around the world who chose to wear hijab and to recognize their contributions throughout the world and history. During World Hijab Day, women from all walks of life are invited to wear the hijab for a day (February 1st) to bring awareness to the reality of what it’s like to wear hijab in today’s world. We hope many non-Muslim women will participate in World Hijab Day, as it is only through stepping into another’s shoes that we can dismantle prejudice and discrimination against Muslim women and increase cultural understanding among us. Additionally, and maybe mostly importantly, as Americans we observe world Hijab Day because it reflects our values to protect religious freedom for ALL. Let us all be united today.
Wear a Hijab today! Happy World Hijab Day!

As many American families gather to share food and memories with family this Thanksgiving, our indigenous communities are struggling with a day that is much more complex and emotionally fraught. This day, for Native American communities, is infused with the brutal impact of colonization, genocide, discrimination, theft, and oppression. For the indigenous communities of New England who were the first to experience the vicious reality of colonization, we stand with them in their annual demonstration of the National Day of Mourning. Vibrant cultures indigenous to this land were extinguished with the arrival of European newcomers (both intentionally and unintentionally). Beginning more than 400 years ago, Native communities across the U.S and Canada are still reaping the consequences of this colonial invasion, from HIGHEST rates of poverty, suicide, drug addiction and overdose, inequal treatment by the justice system, homicide, and more. But with awareness and support by EVERYONE, we can ALL begin with small efforts to start to right some of the historical wrongs that have left an ugly mark on our Nation’s history.
Consider supporting Native American livelihoods, learn about impacting social justice for Native communities, and support preserving Indigenous histories at these places in Minnesota:

• Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post- www.mnhs.org/millelacs

• Honor the Earth- honorearth.org/

• Owamni Restaurant by the Sioux Chef in Minneapolis- owamni.com/

• Pow Wow Grounds Café in Minneapolis- www.powwowgrounds.com/

• Native Harvest Ojibwe Products (White Earth Land Recovery Project)- nativeharvest.com/

• Red Lake Nation Fishery in Redby, MN (the ONLY place in the U.S to buy domestic walleye)- redlakewalleye.com/

• InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront (owned and operated by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe)
